Ekhaya FC Reserves forward Samson Zakeyu has capped off a sensational 2025 ThumbsUp Southern Region Football League campaign by finishing as the league’s top goal scorer, netting an impressive 21 goals in 25 matches.
Despite Zakeyu’s remarkable individual feat, Ekhaya FC Reserves ultimately finished the season as runners-up, failing to defend the league title. The team had spent lengthy periods at the top of the table, leading for much of the campaign, only to be edged out in the closing stages.
Zakeyu’s goal-scoring exploits were a bright spot throughout the season. Week after week, he demonstrated composure, and a deadly eye for goal, making him a constant threat to opposing defences.
The young striker’s performance has not gone unnoticed at senior level. He was recently included on the bench for the Ekhaya FC senior side during their Castel Challenge Cup Round of 16 tie, signaling the coaching staff’s growing confidence in his abilities.
Although he is yet to make his competitive debut for the first team, the call-up represents an important step in his development and a taste of top-level football.
