Free scoring Ekhaya Womens produced another big win in the FAM Women’s Regional League, sweeping aside Msuwadzi Querns 6-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Mpira Stadium.
Slippery on the day, Jenin Mwale tallied a first half hatrick before Maggie Msiska and Kattie Munthali scored a goal each to send The Cowgirls to the halftime break 5-0 up.
The visitors pulled one back but Janet Simione and Kattie Tuwanda buried the tie in the last twelve minutes with goals to make it a 6-1 victory for Ekhaya Women.
How it happened
Starting what was their third match in this new season, our ladies were flying already in the early stages with Mwale opening the scoring two minutes into the match.
The former Blue Eagles player was found by a long lofted ball from Evelyn and the tall striker took her time to slot home the opener.
Four minutes later the visitors’ defender failed to clear a corner kick and Mwale was in the right place to react quickly to double the lead.
There was no backing off from The Cowgirls who made it three in the 34th minute. Credit would go to central striker Catherine Nthambo who on the day was deployed on the right flank. Winning a footrace over his marker and despatching a precise deliver which Mwale connected well to complete her har-trick.
Defending corners proved to be difficult for the visitors as another corner kick from us resulted into another goal of ours, this time it was Msiska who pounced on a poor clearance and fired home to make it 4-0.
It was 5-0 at the stroke of halftime as defender Munthali got herself on the scoresheet with a solo goal, running with the ball from near the half-way line into the box and fired past the keeper.
It threatened to worsen for Nsuwazi Queens in the second half but after the restart they were a different side, much improved in terms of organisation.
The Cowgirls could not extend their lead further untill the 83rd minute when Simeone added yhe sixth following a scramble in the 16 yard area.
Late in stoppage time, the visitors won a penalty when Aggieness Chipengule handled the ball in the area. It was a little too late though as the referee closed the tie, 3-1 it finished.
What it means
The Cowgirls are now on six points , winning two and losing one from their first three opening matches. That tally keep them second in the early league standings.
