Ekhaya Women’s FC produced a ruthless attacking display to demolish Zomba City Lionesses 8–0 in a FAM Women’s League encounter played at Prison Ground in Zomba on Sunday afternoon.
Eliza Mungwa grabbed a hat-trick as Cathy Nthambo, Evelyn Llyod, and Maggie Penyenye were on the scoresheet as well.
What happened
The visitors signaled their intentions almost immediately, with Canthy Nthambo breaking the deadlock just two minutes after kickoff.
Ekhaya’s early pressure unsettled the hosts, and the goals soon began to flow. Loyd doubled the advantage moments later before completing a first-half brace with strikes in the 13th minute, leaving the Lionesses chasing shadows.
Ekhaya continued to dictate the tempo. Nthambo made it 4 nil 4-0 before Eliza Moses made it 5–0 in the 24th minute, finishing off a well-worked team move. Maggie Penyenye added a sixth five minutes later as we tightened our grip on the contest.
By the interval, Ekhaya had surged into a commanding 7–0 halftime lead with Mugwa grabbing the seventh goal, underlining their total dominance in all departments.
The second half saw no let-up from Ekhaya, who maintained their composure and remained compact and disciplined, limiting Zomba City Lionesses to very few openings.
Ekhaya’s midfield trio of Hope Chikumba and Kattie Mnthali, working seamlessly alongside Mungwa, controlled proceedings and provided the creative spark that fueled the team’s relentless attack.
Zomba City Lionesses struggled to cope with Ekhaya’s pace, movement, and clinical finishing, as the visitors punished nearly every defensive lapse with precision.
The emphatic performance was crowned in the 80th minute when Mungwa found the net to complete her scoring? and seal a resounding 8–0 victory.
What the coach said
Speaking after the match, head coach Patricia Makwakwa admitted she had anticipated a tough contest, especially after Ekhaya’s narrow 1–0 home defeat to the same opponents in the first round.
“We expected a difficult game because they beat us at home, but the girls followed the assignment perfectly and managed to score eight goals without conceding,” Makwakwa said.

The convincing win keeps Ekhaya Women’s FC third on the FAM Women’s League table, with 19 points from nine matches.
