Ekhaya Women’s FC came from behind to secure a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Nsuwadzi Queens in a FAM Southern Region Women’s League encounter at Nsuwadzi Ground on Sunday, overcoming an early setback to collect maximum points on the road.
What happened
The hosts made a bright start and drew first blood in the 26th minute when Shilla Alli finished clinically to send the home supporters into celebration.
Nsuwadzi Queens looked dangerous going forward and nearly doubled their lead moments later, forcing Ekhaya to dig deep defensively during a tense spell.
However, The Cowboys responded with composure and purpose. Magret Msiska leveled matters in the 31st minute, reacting quickest inside the box to slot home a well-taken equalizer that shifted momentum in Ekhaya’s favor.
The remainder of the first half saw both sides exchange attacking spells, but neither could find the decisive touch as the teams went into the break locked at 1–1.
Ekhaya emerged from the interval with renewed urgency and began to control larger phases of possession. Their persistence paid off in the 53rd minute, when Stella Chinkusa rose to the occasion, calmly finishing from close range after connecting with a well-delivered corner by Evelyn Loyd to give the visitors a crucial lead.
The goal injected confidence into Ekhaya, but Nsuwadzi refused to fade away. The hosts pressed relentlessly in search of an equalizer, creating nervy moments through quick transitions and set pieces.
