Ekhaya Reserves Back on Top Following an Emphatic 7–1 Victory Over Chilomoni FC
Ekhaya Reserves continued their terrific form with another dominant display, overpowering Chilomoni FC 7–1 in a Thumbs Up League encounter on Monday afternoon at Mpira Stadium.
Leading goalscorer Samson Zakeyu struck an incredible five times, while Yusuf Namtunga and captain Fatsani Juwayo also found the back of the net. The visitors grabbed a late consolation goal in stoppage time.
What Happened
The match burst into life early as Ekhaya Reserves raced into a 2–0 lead within the opening ten minutes.
Leading by example, captain Juwayo opened the scoring from the spot after Bernardo Mofolo was brought down in the box.
Moments later, Samson Zakeyu doubled the lead with a brilliant header, steering home a well-weighted delivery from Limbani Kutambe, setting the tone for a commanding performance.
There was no immediate response from the visitors as the hosts maintained relentless pressure, carving out numerous chances.
Just before the interval, the attacking intent paid off again when Yusuf Namtunga found the back of the net to make it 3–0 at halftime.
After the restart, Chilomoni FC continued to struggle to cope with Ekhaya’s pace, movement, and precision. Golden Boot-chasing Zakeyu extended his free-scoring form with two quick goals, first calmly finishing a fine low delivery from Francis Chimbayo, before adding another following a perfectly timed pass from Namtunga.
Zakeyu was not done yet, striking twice more to cap a memorable individual performance and further extend the lead.
At the other end, goalkeeper Alex Juma remained alert when called upon, making several crucial saves to deny Chilomoni FC any momentum until stoppage time, when Mada Chinsomba pulled one back for the visitors.
Nonetheless, it proved little more than a consolation as the match ended 7–1.
What It Means
With today’s scoreline, the youngsters have now scored 16 goals in two matches, following their 9–1 win over Ntopwa last week.
The victory sends the young Cowboys back to the top of the table on 55 points, with three games left to play, two points clear of second-placed Chilobwe United, and moves them closer to a second consecutive championship.

Speaking after the match, Reserves coach Edmond Mapulanga praised his side’s performance, noting that the players successfully executed what they had worked on in training.
