How It Unfolded
The Cowboys made a bright start to proceedings, showing early intent and purpose in attack. Isaiah Nyirenda nearly handed Ekhaya the perfect start with a clever flick inside the opening exchanges, but the Wanderers’ goalkeeper reacted sharply to keep the effort out.
Ekhaya continued to dominate the early stages, pressing high and creating promising situations, though the final touch proved elusive.
Daniel Kudonto was shown a yellow card midway through the half following a foul on Blessings Malinda in an otherwise controlled opening period that left the Nomads desperate to keep their foot in the game.
The defending champions then struggled to find rhythm early on, prompting an early double substitution as they looked to shift momentum. Despite their adjustments, Ekhaya remained the more threatening side but finally found their breakthrough through Malinda, who finished off a fine team counter with a calm strike. The Cowboys went for the halftime break with a smile and deservedly.
After the restart, Wanderers returned with renewed energy and began to grow into the contest, knocking on the door in search of a breakthrough.
Tactical changes from Ekhaya, however, helped a bit to restore balance but only for a little while, with The Cowboys only coming close to rediscovering their rhythm and matching the hosts.
Heading into the final 15 minutes, the Nomads threw everything forward. With his backline goalkeeper Clever Mkungula once again stood tall, producing a composed performance to deny wave after wave of pressure.
But with time running out, the hosts found their moment. Substitute Promise Kamwendo rose highest to meet a delivery into the box, powering home a late header to level matters and rescue a point for the Nomads.
What It Means
The result sees Ekhaya FC in 5th place on the table with 11 points after seven matches, while Mighty Wanderers remain top with 14 points from the same number of games.
